BREAKING FROM THE WASHINGTON POST: "Post-impeachment, Trump declares himself the 'chief law enforcement officer' of America"
Hello,
It’s not an overstatement to say that Donald Trump and Mitch McConnell are eroding our democracy before our very eyes:
FIRST: Mitch McConnell led Republicans in acquitting Donald Trump during their sham impeachment trial in the Senate.
THEN: Newly emboldened and shown by Mitch McConnell that he can do anything he wants to, Trump fired Gordon Sondland and Lieutenant Colonel Alexander Vindman just 48 hours after the trial ended for testifying in the House’s impeachment inquiry.
NEXT: Trump began interfering directly in the Justice Department’s handling of cases, provoking four career prosecutors to quit in protest.
AND NOW: Earlier today, The New York Times reported that Trump is claiming “to be the law of the land,” asserting that he has “authority of the criminal justice system, attacking law enforcement officials and issuing pardons.”
This is a full-blown constitutional crisis. And where are Mitch McConnell and the Republicans? Nowhere to be found.
Mitch McConnell has stood by, aiding and abetting Trump in eroding the very fabric of our democracy. He has taught Trump – and any other autocrat who might come after him – that he can trample all over the constitution, consolidate power, and rule without Congress.
We must defeat Trump in 2020, but we must also send McConnell packing if we’re going to have any hope of restoring our great republic. Luckily, Mitch McConnell is up for reelection in 2020 – but he and his shady Super PACs have already started blanketing Kentucky with ads to try to get him reelected to another 6 year term.
America can’t afford another 6 minutes of McConnell, let alone another 6 years. That’s why we created Ditch Mitch – a completely grassroots-funded movement that is solely dedicated to supporting Mitch McConnell’s Democratic opponent and defeating Mitch this November.
Mitch is wasting no time trying to win in November, and we can't either. We’ve set a goal of raising another $20,200 today to fund our efforts to send Mitch McConnell packing for good, but right now we are $8,135 short of hitting that goal.
Mitch thinks he can get away with anything – cutting Social Security and Medicare; giving tax cuts to the wealthy; blocking Merrick Garland; ramming through Brett Kavanaugh – and he’s willing to risk all of our democratic ideals to support Trump and get what he wants.
But together, we’re going to make him see that the power of the people is stronger than anything his corporate campaign donors can buy.
Thank you for helping us build the movement that will defeat McConnell this November,
The Ditch Mitch Fund
