Dear John,
Our federal budget is a reflection of our national priorities. The question is: Whose priorities?
We received a clear answer this week as the Senate voted in favor of an unprecedented $886 billion dollar budget for the Pentagon in 2024 – nearly double the total U.S. military spending at the height of the Iraq war.
In fact, the Pentagon is on track to increase spending by 20% in Biden’s first three years in office. It took Donald Trump four years to achieve the same.
This comes at a time when over 70% of Americans experience chronic economic stress. When one in four Americans live with medical debt and tens of millions live with student loan debt. One third of Americans live on less than $15 an hour and half of them cannot find an affordable place to live. Half our seniors are living on less than $25,000 a year.
Where are the policy priorities to address any of these problems?
When I am elected, I will work to reduce the economic stress experienced by the majority of our people. From universal healthcare to tuition-free college and tech school to a guaranteed living wage, we will initiate a season of repair. That is the vision behind my 21st Century Economic Bill of Rights [[link removed]] , and that will be my mandate as your president.

Democrats will win in 2024 when we demonstrate our commitment to repairing the lives of people who are living on the edge. President Roosevelt said that we wouldn’t have to worry about a fascist takeover in this country as long as democracy delivered on his promises. Right now it’s not, but when I am president, it will.

We cannot achieve any of this with a corporate, political, and media establishment designed to protect and perpetuate the system as it is. That is why We the People must step in now.
