¹ How do prescription drug costs in the United States compare to other countries?

This weekend, Medicare and Medicaid turn 58 years old! And over those 58 years, we’ve improved both critical programs, making health care more affordable and accessible to recipients.

Now, we’re on the verge of our next big victory: Medicare starting to negotiate prescription drug prices.

Included in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act, in addition to capping the cost of insulin at $35, capping out-of-pocket costs on Medicare Part D medications, making recommended vaccines free for Medicare recipients, and requiring drug corporations to pay rebates to Medicare if they raise their prices faster than inflation―Medicare will also, finally, have the ability to negotiate prescription drug prices for the first time in 20 years.

But, Big Pharma is freaking out and fighting back. Apparently their hundreds of billions of dollars in profits aren’t enough.

They’ve filed lawsuits seeking to block Medicare from negotiating drug prices so that pharmaceutical corporations can continue price gouging U.S. consumers.

Already, CHN has encouraged people from across the country to send more than 7,500 messages directly to the CEO of pharmaceutical giant Merck, demanding they drop their frivolous lawsuit. But now, with more pharmaceutical corporations filing similar lawsuits, we need to ramp up our campaign and fight back.
