10 Days to go in Ohio

There’s only one way to defeat MAGA bullies in Ohio or anywhere else: treat them like the cowards they are, filled with bluster but weak at the core. That’s why, when they attack our democracy, the best thing we can do is fight back harder. The result, as we’ve seen in election after election, is that they will crumble and we will win.

So it will be—if we do the work!—with Ohio’s Issue 1, a ballot measure whose only purpose is to curtail the ability of ordinary citizens to shape the destiny of their state through ballot initiatives. Devised by the GOP State House majority, it would make it difficult, if not impossible, to pass such initiatives, removing a path to direct democracy that has been in place since 1912!

The reason for blocking this path is clear: MAGA Republicans are afraid. They are afraid of the voters, afraid of the future, afraid of outcomes they don’t like (including a ballot initiative this November protecting reproductive freedom, likely to pass). In essence, MAGA Republicans are afraid of American democracy itself. That’s why they are trying so hard to end it, not just in Ohio but across the country.

Our mission, then, is to show Ohio Republicans that their fear is completely well founded—to spend the next 10 days ensuring that Issue 1 is so overwhelmingly defeated, the message rings out loud and clear: our democracy will prevail.
