2020 Quarter 1 Evidence Action Newsletter

2019’s Greatest Hits

2019 was a tremendous year not just for us, but for the field of evidence-based international development. Check out our top highlights from 2019 - including key program results, the Nobel for a movement, and key recognition for our work - alongside some key decisions, on our blog.

Open wide: Youth in Peshawar, Pakistan receive deworming treatments. In Pakistan, approximately 17 million school-age children are in need of regular deworming.

What’s in store for 2020?

Future impact: In 2020, we aim to support governments to launch HIV/maternal syphilis testing programs in two countries - stay tuned for details. We’re also aiming to help India’s government scale their iron and folic acid supplementation program to cost-effectively reach 15 million kids across four states.

Building a worm-free world: We’re aiming to reach over 300 million kids with deworming treatment, at a cost of less than $0.50 per treatment. Notably, this year will be the first time Sindh, Pakistan, and Lagos, Nigeria conduct mass, school-based deworming with our support.

Delivering safe water:  To sustain and grow safe water access for 4 million people in rural sub-saharan Africa, we'll retrain thousands of local community promoters to reinvigorate their education and advocacy efforts - enabling high adoption among communities.

Gearing up to exhibit at the world’s largest Expo:  Dispensers for Safe Water will be 1 of 25 initiatives showcasing at this year’s Expo2020 in Dubai, under the Global Best Practice Program. The program spotlights “initiatives that have provided real solutions to the world’s biggest challenges” and are helping advance progress on the Sustainable Development Goals.
