Trump-appointed judge dismisses Donald's $475 million "Big Lie" defamation lawsuit against CNN
The disgraced ex-president notched another impressive courtroom defeat, this time before one of his handpicked jurists, US District Judge Raag Singhal, whom he appointed in 2019. Trump laughably claimed that CNN's use of the very apt, very accurate term "big lie" to describe his nefarious efforts to overthrow the 2020 election and upend American democracy amounted to defamation because the phrase apparently likened him to Adolf Hitler. While the phrase "big lie" historically refers to an insidious propaganda technique with origins tracing back to Germany and Hitler's memoir, Mein Kampf, Trump's attempt to steal the presidency was, in fact, based on a lie, and a very, very big one at that.

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Ron DeSantis struggles to defend himself during softball conservative interview
The Florida governor and floundering presidential candidate for months famously bragged about going to war with Disney and punishing the amusement park behemoth, then fecklessly tried to tell Megyn Kelly he did no such thing.
The progressive movement has found its leader in the House
Pramila Jayapal: As leader of the House Progressive Caucus, Pramila Jayapal isn't settling for the same old same old. She's fighting for real change that will make a difference in people's lives and refusing to tolerate Republican BS. Trump calls Biden a "dumb son of a bitch" at Pennsylvania rally
Look, we know politics is a contact sport and shit talking is just part of the fracas, but we've come to expect more from the disgraced ex-president's name-calling game. President Biden absolutely smoked Trump in 2020 by more than seven million votes and has run rings around his predecessor with the most successful, consequential presidency in modern history, and the best the serial loser can come up with is "son of a bitch?" Sad.

Arkansas judge blocks law targeting librarians over "harmful" books
A federal judge temporarily blocked Arkansas from enforcing a heinous, deeply flawed law that would have allowed the state to bring criminal charges against librarians and booksellers for providing "harmful" materials to minors. What constitutes "harmful," you ask? Simple! Whatever right-wing demagogues like GOP Gov. Sarah Huckabee Sanders say. What could possibly go wrong?

GOP senator obnoxiously brushes off record heat wave
Two global climate organizations confirmed that July is on track to be the single hottest month on record. It is also likely the hottest monthlong stretch in 120,000 years. Nearly 200 million people — 60% of the US population — are currently under an extreme heat or flood advisory. Republicans, of course, remain undeterred and unconvinced. “It’s no hotter right now than it’s ever been. I’ve been in this heat all my life in July and August as a football coach. This world’s not heating up, come on," Sen. Tommy Tuberville said with pants on fire. [RETWEET THAT!]

Texas traffic stop goes off the rails, cop holds family at gunpoint over license plate screw up
An innocent Arkansas family of four on their way to a basketball tournament was traumatized at gunpoint by a Texas cop who falsely accused them of stealing their own car. The cop in question incorrectly called in their license plate mistaking Arizona for Arkansas, and chaos predictably ensued. Sixteen excruciating minutes went by before an additional officer on the scene pointed out that the vehicle in question was not stolen from Arizona, but in fact was legally and properly registered to the victims in Arkansas, as the family had repeatedly tried to explain to no avail. Thankfully, no shots were fired during the embarrassing debacle.
