Open to find out what's going on across the Green Party of England and Wales and how you can get involved :)

John,

As global temperature records continue to tumble, attention focused on the next general election and the need for more Green MPs to hold the other major parties to account on climate action. Scroll to find out what's going on across the Green Party and how you can get involved 🔽

As scientists issued more dire warnings about the accelerating nature of the climate crisis, Carla Denyer appeared on Newsnight and called for urgent action to speed up a just transition to a sustainable future.

It is vital we clean up dirty air and ultra-low emission zones will help achieve this, Zack Polanski told Sky News after the Uxbridge by-election - Conservatives narrowly held on to the seat previously held by Boris Johnson.

Green party spokesperson Matt Edwards has been to the forefront of the campaign to stop the closure of ticket offices at railway stations, branding the move “shortsighted”. The consultation has now been extended.

Responding to the results in three national by-elections, where the Green party came third in each contest, Adrian Ramsay told BBC Radio Suffolk that voters were disillusioned with the Tories and uninspired by Labour.

There is an “ideological barrier” preventing the Government taking action to restore the natural environment. So said Caroline Lucas at the launch of  a major national campaign calling for reforms ahead of the general election.

Green peer Jenny Jones was interviewed on TalkTV about the government’s Illegal Migration Bill. She accused the Tories of breaking the system for safe and legal routes for asylum seekers.

Sian Berry’s selection as the new parliamentary candidate for Brighton Pavilion has been welcomed by members across the country. Sian admits she has big shoes to fill but says she is up for the challenge and intends to talk to every voter in the constituency between now and the general election to convince them she would make a powerful new Green voice in Parliament.

By Julian Dean, Association of Green Councillors: The story of remarkable local election successes has been told elsewhere. Where have these taken us as a Party? Before May ’23 we had a share in the administration of 17 councils. We now hold leading positions in 35 councils, ranging from an overall majority in Mid-Suffolk to single member of the executive in West Devon, from biggest party with council leader in Lewes to second biggest party with Deputy Leader in Lancaster. We have 9 council leaders and 7 deputy council leaders. More than half of the groups in power are in this situation for the first time. We have consolidated our position as the main opposition in many other councils. In some cities (and some London boroughs where there were no elections this year) we are the main – sometimes the only - opposition to Labour administrations. Elsewhere our growth means more Green groups are challenging Tory administrations, often working closely with other opposition groups, sometimes with only one or two green councillors.

Did you know that supporters are welcome to join our conference too? Bookings for Green Party Autumn Conference in Brighton 6-8 October are now open! Following our record local election results in May, with membership growing and momentum like never before ahead of the next General Election, we know this one is going to be a special one.
