We need all
hands on deck.

A resolution to denounce and oppose Medicare for All was just introduced
in the Arizona Legislature. That’s right, I’m not joking. And we have
reason to believe that it was hand-written by insurance industry
lobbyists.

Senate Republicans are trying to ram it through and rush a vote tomorrow.
First through the State Senate, then the State House. We need to really
crank up the pressure, right now, and ask Arizona Democrats to vote NO on
this industry-fueled, lobbyist-written sham.

[ [link removed] ]Please use our dialer to call the State Senate Minority Leader, David
Bradley, and ask Democrats to [ [link removed] ]please vote NO on the resolution.

Alternatively, you can call his office directly at 602-926-5262, and use
our script below:

"Hi my name is INSERT NAME. I’m calling to ask State
Senate Minority Leader Bradley to please ask all Democrats in the State
Senate to vote NO on SCR 1047 titled ‘Objecting to Medicare for All.’ It
is an industry-sponsored resolution that is full of false information
about Medicare for All, and it does not and should not speak for the
people of Arizona. I’m asking all Democrats in the Arizona State Senate
to please vote NO on this dangerous and misleading resolution." (If they
say they are voting no, say thank you!)

I want to quickly give some more background on why we suspect this is
being ghost-written by lobbyists and why that’s so incredibly dangerous.

There’s a massive organization called the American Legislative Exchange
Council (ALEC) that you may have heard about.
For decades, they’ve lobbied exceptionally hard to block legislation for
reproductive justice, as well as bills to stop climate change. They’ve
also passed anti-union and anti-worker laws all over the country.

One of the ways they do this is by writing bills and then using their
corporate-funding and huge networks to have their hand-written bills
introduced in state legislatures — 2,900 “model bills” in all 50 states,
to be precise.

In the world of health care, we have our very own ALEC — The Partnership
for America’s Health Care Future. They’re essentially a legislative front
group for Big Pharma, hospital executives, and insurance conglomerates.

We’ve seen the Partnership ghost-write op-eds for their favorite
politicians before. Given the success of ALEC, it’s entirely possible that
the Partnership is not only behind this anti-Medicare for All legislation
in Arizona, but that it’s hoping to deploy the same strategy all over the
country.

This is just the beginning. Arizona could be their trial run, so it’s
important that we act quickly. [ [link removed] ]Please click here to make calls today
and ask Arizona Democrats to vote NO on this absurd resolution.

I can’t stress it enough: it’s so important that we act quickly to combat
this resolution. They’re hoping to catch us with our guard down by rushing
it through at the 11th hour. Which is why we need to fight back NOW.

In solidarity,
