As a valued supporter of the Green Party of Canada, we’re writing you today because we urgently need your help. Our country is facing a climate emergency, and the recent federal adaptation strategy is woefully insufficient to support our communities to prepare for the catastrophic effects of climate change.
Despite warnings from scientists about the dire consequences of warming average temperatures for years, governments have been slow to act. The Trudeau government's recently released adaptation strategy falls short of what is needed today. Our Leader Elizabeth May has spoken out about the inadequacy of this plan -- “No heat deaths by 2040?! Heat deaths are the easiest to predict and the most preventable of all climate disasters. Critical and essential elements of adaptation to heat domes include cooling centers, urban trees, and shared access to water.”
We have a path forward. The Green Party of Canada is committed to immediate, extensive action on climate adaptation and mitigation. For example, we would cancel the TMX pipeline and all new oil exploration projects, redirecting the funds and workforce into urgent adaptation projects to protect our cities, homes, and lives from the effects of climate change.
But we can't do it without your support. We need your help to raise funds before the next election, to invest in candidate recruitment and support, including funds to run our upcoming campaign school. Your contribution today will make a real difference in the fight for climate justice.
