Here’s the issue: There’s no auditor general for First Nations communities.
 
For most of us, the federal or provincial auditor general can keep an eye on our politicians.
 
But if a grassroots Indigenous activist has questions about the chief and council in their community, there’s no auditor general to call.
 
The federal government and the Assembly of First Nations jointly commissioned a report recommending the creation of an Indigenous auditor general – it just hasn’t happened yet.
