Friend, Being transparent and accountable to Iowans is my top priority in Congress. I will be holding two in-person Town Hall Meetings next week to hear from you and answer your questions. I will be in Chickasaw County on Monday, July 31st, and Hardin County on Tuesday, August 1st. I hope to see you there! Chickasaw County Town Hall Monday, July 31st 10:00 AM Chickasaw Event Center 301 N. Water Ave, New Hampton, IA 50659 Hardin County Town Hall Tuesday, August 1st 11:15 AM Eldora Public Library 1202 10th Street, Eldora, IA 50627 Best, Providing for Life Act This week I introduced the Providing for Life Act, a comprehensive package that charts the policy course for a culture of life in America. By expanding the Child Tax Credit to include the unborn and provide additional relief to working families, empowering women to care for their babies and families regardless of socioeconomic status or zip code, and expanding access to community resources, we can protect the most vulnerable, make a meaningful difference for those in need, and strengthen all families. Here's a breakdown of what's in the bill: Provides tax breaks to working families: Expands the refundable Child Tax Credit (CTC) to up to $3,500 for children under the age of 18, and $4500 per child under the age of 6 Expands the CTC to provide support for unborn babies (because providing for your baby starts the second you find out you're pregnant!) Makes the Adoption Tax Credit fully refundable Supports new parents: Enhancing paid parental leave and giving parents options and flexibility Expands nutritional assistance for postpartum women and their babies Enacts multi-tiered child support reform Mandates cooperation with child support for SNAP recipients Incentivizes states to establish rules requiring the father to cover half of women’s pregnancy costs Re-routes $100 million from the TANF contingency fund for grants to states for work activities for non-custodial parents under child support orders, so fathers are empowered to support their own families Empowers women and protects their babies: Ensures pregnant women know their rights and protections on college campuses, empowering women to choose life while continuing their education Establishes a federal clearinghouse of resources available to pregnant mothers and supports the Maternal Mental Health Hotline through a new website called life.gov Ensures Title X funding is made available to pregnancy resource centers Builds community support for mothers and new families: Funds local demonstration programs providing volunteer mentoring and peer support services for low-income, vulnerable mothers Expands and codifies vital protections for faith-based organizations providing federally funded social services A Day in Dubuque This week I visited several community organizations in Dubuque that are on the frontlines of the pro-life movement. I will continue to hear from Iowans who are working to advance a culture of life and match their passion and hard work with pro-life policies at the federal level. Dubuque Right To Life Life is a precious gift. Dubuque Right To Life is doing incredible work to ensure that everyone, at all stages of life, is treated with respect and dignity. They have saved lives in Iowa – thanks for having me this week! Romper Room Child Care Center The dedicated team at Romper Room Child Care center provides high quality child care to families in Dubuque. They also have a second location, Romper Stompers, that provides child care for parents who don’t work 9-5 jobs. We discussed my After Hours Child Care Act, legislation that will help parents who don't work traditional 9-5 hours, like law enforcement officers, store clerks, and nurses, access child care. Wonderfully Made Wonderfully Made provides comprehensive birth education for expecting moms, helping women have healthy pregnancies and build their support system ahead of having a baby. I enjoyed discussing the importance of expanding midwifery services and supporting new moms in the workforce! PREP and Civics and Government Act I joined my friend Rep. Dan Kildee (D-MI-08) at the Cato Institute to discuss our bipartisan PREP Civics and Government Act – legislation that expands access to civics and government education – and the importance of civil discourse. It was great to meet with Iowa educators in attendance and thank them for their dedication to our students! Iowa FFA It was great meeting with Iowa FFA state officers this week! FFA plays a critical role in equipping the next generation with leadership and career skills through agriculture education. Thank you for all you do! Headline Highlights The Daily Caller: Sen.
