Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas Appears Before the House Judiciary Committee

This week, the House Judiciary Committee heard testimony from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. Under Secretary Mayorkas' leadership, DHS policies have resulted in an inability to maintain operational control of the southern border.

Under the policies of this administration, the U.S. Customs and Border Protection reports that there have been:

- 5.6 million illegal alien encounters.

- 1.5 million known "gotaways".

- 71,000 fentanyl deaths in 2021 alone.

Congressman Van Drew Attends Cape May County 4H Fair

Last weekend, I attended the Cape May County 4H Fair. I enjoyed the chance to hear from South Jersey constituents on how best I can support them in Congress, especially with the 2023 Farm Bill Reauthorization coming up. The 4H Fair works to support Cape May’s Youth Development Programs which provide valuable, hands-on educational opportunities for K-12 students.

Our children are the future of South Jersey, and programs like Cape May County 4H are essential in giving them the tools and experience they need to be successful.

Congressman Van Drew Discusses South Jersey Economic Development and Storm Readiness With U.S. Army Officials

Last week, I met with Chief of the Army Corps of Engineers Scott A. Spellmon and Assistant Secretary of the Army for Civil Works Jaime Pinkham to discuss the use of dredged material to reduce costs, improve storm resilience, and benefit the environment on the New Jersey Bay Shore, as well as opportunities for economic development and storm readiness improvements in South Jersey.

The hard work of the Army Corps of Engineers is essential to maintaining South Jersey's infrastructure and shoreline, and I thank them for their commitment to the safety of New Jerseyans.

Last week, the House passed the FAA Reauthorization bill. I helped secure major wins for South Jersey, including the FAA William J. Hughes Technical Center remains permanently based in South Jersey.
