And the People chanted: “The rent is too damn high! Temperatures are too damn high!”
As an organization rooted in building and uplifting local power; and both collaborating and amplifying the voices of Florida’s New Majority, we know this summer has been “Hotter than July” [[link removed]] in more ways than one! Undoubtedly, global and local temperatures are at an all time high, and average temperatures post 1981 are rising twice as fast [[link removed]'s%20temperature%20has%20risen%20by,0.18%C2%B0%20C)%20per%20decade.] . Simply put: It is just too damn hot – with too many children, families and seniors living without access to air conditioning and the fiscal privileges that allow an escape from the heat, we are overwhelmingly concerned and active to ensure ALL are protected during both our climate and housing crises! We have to protect and advocate for our equitable protections and care… Florida Rising wants to remind all members and supporters that building Black and Brown political power is our top priority, and we do that through fighting the power — we are pushing back on an anti-Black establishment and uplifting opportunities for everyday people to engage in a political system which fails if not committed to representation, life, and liberation!
We recommend our members, supporters and entire communities participate in Catalyst Miami ’s Fall 2023 CLEAR [[link removed]] and HEAL [[link removed]] leadership programs to push back on both climate and housing gentrification. Both programs enhance the probability of winning the battle for housing equity and climate justice.

Again, there is no question around how expensive rising housing costs are, and the blaring disproportionate impact it has on working-class families and communities – specifically Black and Brown Floridians. That’s why Florida Rising and our partners across the state are committed to pushing back on gentrification, slumlords, homelessness, displacement and skyrocketing rent costs that make it harder and harder for everyday people to secure safe and affordable housing. Florida Rising has your back and your membership supports us in moving the work forward! [[link removed]]
It’s extremely bizarre, but on March 29, 2023 Governor DeSantis and Florida's state legislature decided “NO” on rent stabilization. However, through a federal rulemaking process, there is still an opportunity to get rent control and tenant protections in Florida. Submit a comment to the Federal Housing Finance Agency to continue the fight for truly affordable quality housing [[link removed]] (DEADLINE: JULY 31, 2023).

Please support the future of Florida by sharing, printing, and signing the abortion ballot petition [[link removed]] . The fight is still on! Since the launch of the campaign, we’ve been able to garner over 500,000 signatures. It’s an easy and fast way to not only place abortion on the ballot, but reclaim the constitutional rights we secured in 1973.
SIGN THE ABORTION BALLOT PETITION! [[link removed]]

Discussion on a New Black History Curriculum in Florida
(07/24/23- MSNBC-ReidOut Show)
So here comes their latest tactic, using the law to enforce historical amnesia, which brings us to Florida where the latest DeSantis’s shenanigans involve the state's new black history curriculum which will teach students about how enslaved black people benefitted from slavery by getting cool new job skills.
