Friends,

As we round out the month of July, I want to share with you recent work and several successes.

In July, I voted for the annual National Defense Authorization Act that will restore focus on a strong and prepared military, and I voted to fully fund our Department of Veterans Affairs programs.

In two great legislative successes, my bill to streamline the hiring of essential firefighting personnel, Direct Hire to Fight Fires, unanimously passed committee. The bill now advances to the full House for consideration. Additionally, legislation I authored to entrust sacred land of the Pala Band of Mission Indians has now passed the House and Senate and will be signed into law.

I also continued oversight of the Biden Administration where we recieved testimony from Secretary of Homeland Security Mayorkas and held a Foreign Affairs Committee hearing on the disastrous withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.

As we approach the two-year anniversary of the Afghanistan withdrawal, I will be hosting a public hearing in Escondido on August 7th to receive the first-ever Congressional testimony from the Gold Star Families of the 13 servicemembers killed during the withdrawal. This hearing is open to the public, and I warmly invite you to attend to hear the stories of these heroes. RSVPs are requested, but not required.

As always, it is an honor to serve our community in Congress. If you need casework assistance, please contact my San Diego or Riverside office at (760) 304-7575.

Respectfully,
