I have big plans for Durham County, and they all start and end with voter representation, which is why these three values are at the top of my docket:
1. Bridging the gap. My top priority is being a representative for all Durhamites – that’s why I’m fighting to bridge the gap between marginalized communities and their elected officials. John, my work isn’t done until we all have a seat at the table.
2. Breaking barriers. I was the first Muslim woman elected to any office in North Carolina. I’m not just shattering glass ceilings – I’m breaking institutional barriers. Leading with courage and kindness, we have the power to build a more progressive future together.
3. Building progressive power. In my three years as a Durham County Commissioner, I’ve been fighting on the front lines for our community’s greatest needs, advocating for everything from guaranteed basic income to property tax relief.
