We hope you have had a great week! It was a full week in Washington for Congressman Kim with great meetings, several hearings on foreign policy, events recognizing the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice, and voting to protect vital funding for military bases and veterans.

 

We were excited to celebrate National New Jersey Day on Thursday! We could never pass up a chance to share how much we love this Garden State and serving our communities.

 

Congressman Kim and our team look forward to a full August in New Jersey, speaking with neighbors and listening to what is on your mind.

COMING UP:  Good Governance Week & Constituent Services Fair 

 

To end July and kick-off August, we are excited for our Good Governance Week beginning this Sunday! The week will highlight the support and services our office, local organizations, and federal agencies can provide the community. 

 

On Thursday, August 3rd from 12PM to 4PM, Congressman Kim is hosting a Constituent Services Resource Fair at the Mount Laurel Community Center.

 

Building off the tenets of accessibility, independence, civility, and serving you, the resource fair will bring government and non-profit resources together, directly into the community. The event is open to the public, and we hope to see you there!

 

Congressman Kim Votes Against Partisan Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Funding Bill

 

This week, Congressman Kim voted against a Military Construction and Veterans Administration funding bill that he felt did not meet the moment in how we serve our veterans. 

 

The partisan bill underfunds military construction projects by $1.5 billion at bases around the world, impacting readiness at military installations and bases all over the world, and could harm our own Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst. 

 

Additionally the bill cuts $200 million from PFAS cleanup efforts, cuts funding that goes towards updating military installations to protect against extreme weather, and targets women veterans, preventing them from being able to get abortion counseling and abortion services through the VA.

 

Congressman Kim Reintroduces Legislation to Combat Opioid Crisis and Increase Awareness of Opioid and Addiction Solutions

 

The opioid crisis continues to impact communities at home in New Jersey and across the country. Congressman Kim is proud to stand with leading health organizations to introduce this bill that would open the possibility for informed conversations and give more people the tools necessary to tackle addiction and substance use disorders and save lives.

 

Congressman Kim is proud to reintroduce his Solutions Not Stigmas Act– with Congresswoman Mikie Sherrill to invest in treatment education for healthcare workers that will spread awareness, break down bias, and improve care for people experiencing substance use disorder.

Looking to the Future, Congressman Kim Speaks with Interns Participating in the Congressional Future Forum Youth Congress

The Congressman spoke with interns participating in Congressional Future Forum Youth Congress on Tuesday to speak about the importance of young people’s voice in the legislative process and answer questions on his work in public service and topics they’re passionate about. 

Honoring the 70th Anniversary of the Korean-American War Armistice 

 

This Thursday, Congressman Kim helped commemorate the 70th Anniversary of the Korean-American War Armistice and honor all the brave servicemembers and Korean Augmentees to the U.S. Army for their service and continue working to strengthen our enduring U.S.-Korea alliance and peace in the region.

 

He joined Korean American groups and veterans, and community leaders yesterday for events honoring the Korean War anniversary and the alliance. We move forward to open more doors for Korean American families, diplomacy, and lasting peace.

Meeting with the American Physical Therapists Association  

 

Congressman Kim also met with the American Physical Therapists Association to learn more about what we can do to remove barriers to accessing necessary medical support.

Congressman Kim Meets with 2020 Congressional Award Winner  

 

Congressman Kim welcomed Matthew from Bordentown to Washington today to help celebrate winning the Congressional Award in 2020. Matthew completed a path restoration project at Crystal Lake Park in Burlington County as a part of his Eagle Scout Project during his high school years. Now attending Mercer Community College, we loved hearing Matthew speak about his project with the Congressman.

Celebrating National Hire a Veteran Day

 

This week we also recognized National Hire a Veteran Day by thanking all the local businesses and community organizations that prioritize hiring veterans. Our promise to support our servicemembers and their families must include looking out for their financial security. Congressman Kim works to expand local job opportunities for vets and make sure they have opportunities to be in a career or workforce where they will thrive.
