John,
Since the 2020 election, the right to vote has been under attack in state legislatures nationwide. States like Florida and Texas have passed sweeping legislation aimed at “voter fraud” that disproportionately impacts young voters and communities of color. Republican lawmakers have closed polling stations, created hurdles for voter registration, rejected ballots for arcane rule violations, and removed hundreds of thousands of people in voter purges.
And the assault on voting rights isn’t limited to state legislatures. House Republicans recently introduced the American Confidence in Elections Act, a thinly-veiled effort to suppress the vote while also giving billionaires and corporations even more influence in our elections.
That’s why we need the Freedom to Vote Act. This legislation would protect and expand the right to vote nationwide through automatic voter registration, expanded early and mail-in voting, and protections against voter ID laws targeting vulnerable Americans. The bill also targets dark money through strengthened campaign finance transparency measures and addresses tactics used in efforts to undermine the 2020 election.
Tell Congress: Pass the Freedom to Vote Act. |
Congress has a responsibility to defend democracy for the very people who elected us to represent them. By passing the Freedom to Vote Act, we are fulfilling that promise. In solidarity, Ro |
