The pursuit of endless economic growth has already seriously damaged our environment, with floods, fires and storms making headlines all over the world. We’ll be publishing new research on how we can escape our dependence on growth this May, and our work to highlight the vital role the Bank of England can play in tackling the climate crisis will remain a top priority.
We also share your concerns about Brexit. There’s a real risk it’ll be used as an excuse to tear up the rule-book and let the financial sector return to its pre-2008 excesses. We held the Bank of England to account for contributing to a rise in inequality before [1], and we’ll continue to keep a close eye on the Bank and other big players in the financial sector throughout the Brexit process.
Looking ahead, 2020 really felt like unknown territory for Positive Money. But these results are proof that we’re going in the right direction.
