96 [link removed] Friend,
Did you catch
Governor Kemp’s State of the State Address last month?
If you did, then
you know he’s laying out a bold vision, to build on the tremendous
progress made last year to build a safer, stronger Georgia. The Governor
is hard at work at the Capitol to move his legislative priorities
forward... and he’s going to be counting on your help along the way!
Today, we wanted to provide a quick summary of several of Governor
Kemp’s top initiatives. We’ll be following up with you on these issues
during the critical weeks ahead.
Please review the Governor’s 2020
agenda below.
Then, take a moment to share this email with our family
and friends!
Education
One of Governor Kemp’s top priorities continues
to be ensuring our state delivers a world-class education for every
Georgia student. His education plan for 2020 includes: fully funding
public school education; dismantling the remnants of Common Core;
reducing the number of standardized tests our students are required to
take; and giving our educators another well-deserved pay raise!
Health
Care
Governor Kemp’s healthcare reforms will provide a new pathway for
408,000 Georgians to access affordable care, and lower insurance
premiums for millions more. But this is only the beginning. This year,
one of his top priorities is crafting a legislative remedy to reduce
surprise medical billing. Hardworking Georgians should not be forced to
the brink of bankruptcy because of a lack of transparency.
Public
Safety
The Anti-Gang Task Force was launched last year to partner with
local law enforcement and prosecutors to “stop and dismantle” gangs
throughout Georgia. And while Georgia already has tough gang statutes on
the books, Governor Kemp believes there’s more we can do to stop
violence from taking over our state. His latest proposal includes
strengthening penalties faced by those convicted of gang activity,
making defendants in murder cases involving gang activity automatically
eligible for the death penalty, and creating a legal division of the
GBI, so that the agency’s lawyers could serve as special prosecutors.
Human Trafficking
Shortly after taking office, Governor Kemp created
the GRACE Commission to help coordinate efforts to end the scourge of
modern-day slavery in our state. Under the leadership of First Lady
Marty Kemp, this commission has worked to raise awareness. This year,
the Governor is working to advance legislation to close loopholes that
leave children vulnerable to exploitation, help victims tell their story
in the courtroom without fear of retaliation, and support survivors who
want to enter the workforce but still bear the scars of the past.
Adoption Reform
Governor Kemp believes we need to defend ALL life -
those in the womb, and those who have left the delivery room. This year,
he wants to build on successful past reforms to update our adoption
laws. He’s proposed tripling the adoption tax credit from $2,000 to
$6,000, to help new parents offset the incredible costs of adoption. He
also wants to lower the adoption age from 25 to 21 so more qualified
Georgians can adopt and more children can be placed.
Please look out
for our future emails on these and other critical issues.
Your support
will be VITAL as we ramp up public pressure to get the Governor’s agenda
passed into law!
Thank you for ALL of your support, Friend.
Governor Kemp is grateful to have you on board.
