Earlier today, President Biden signed an executive order implementing Senator Kirsten Gillibrand's military justice reforms – what The New York Times calls "the most significant changes to the modern military legal system since it was created in 1950."

This moment, and these reforms, were never guaranteed. For nearly a decade, Kirsten fought tirelessly alongside our service members, survivors, their families, and advocates to remove the military chain of command's authority over cases involving sexual assault, domestic violence, murder and other serious crimes.

Today's executive order means we finally have the independent, professional and unbiased military justice system that our service members deserve.
