Another issue the left claims the moral high ground on is the border crisis. The left claims that it is “compassionate” to allow migrants to flood into our country illegally without consequence. But, once again, there is nothing compassionate about the left’s stance on this issue. In fact, their open border policies lead to unspeakable atrocities.
What the left fails to acknowledge is the Mexican drug cartels are taking advantage of Joe Biden’s lax enforcement of our country’s immigration laws. The cartels advertise Biden’s open border policies to migrants and then cash in on migrants making the dangerous journey to our southern border. One big money maker for the cartels is migrant children.
Under the Biden Administration, there has been a surge of unaccompanied migrant children crossing into our country. Unlike adult migrants, unaccompanied children must be placed into the care of the Department of Health and Human Services, which is responsible for their care in the Office of Refugee Resettlement. This week during an Energy and Commerce Committee hearing, I pressed the Secretary of Health and Human Services Secretary about how his department is handling the surge.
Due to the sheer number of unaccompanied children coming across our border, the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) simply cannot take care of these kids in a responsible manner. Migrant children are quickly cleared through ORR facilities and into the care of sponsors who are not properly vetted. As a result, migrant children often end up in a pipeline to grueling labor that no child should be doing. And there are no laws on the books that require sponsors to answer wellness calls from ORR officials to make sure children are in safe environments. That needs to change.
Like everything else, the left’s “compassion” have truly cruel consequences for the most vulnerable people. The illegal immigration crisis is no different, and migrant children are being abused and put in danger by the left’s policies that allow this crisis to persist.
