RAISE THE WAGE RENTON:

WHAT’S NEXT?!

ON TO FEBRUARY!

  • We did not make the ballot for November and are short 2,226 signatures of the required 8,913 signatures to qualify.
  • HOWEVER, we can still submit for the February ballot!
  • We are going to gather until THE END OF AUGUST

HOW DO WE GET MORE VALID SIGNATURES?

  • Too many signatures rejected due to being out of jurisdiction or not registered.
  • We can solve this by door knocking!
  • When we door knock, we use VAN data which increases the chances we are getting the signature of a valid Renton registered voter.

AND our recently endorsed Renton City Council Candidate, Michael Westgaard, has a primary on August 1st! He is the ONLY candidate to endorse raising the wage, and we can both knock on doors for RTW and Michael in this critical final week.

Let’s make sure we get on the ballot and put Michael on the Renton City Council to show that DSA is showing up for working class folks!

This means we need folks to help us keep collecting through August. We really need teams to send to doors as much as possible.

This is our chance to deliver a MASSIVE wealth transfer of $45 million EVERY YEAR from the corporate elite to the working class, especially the most marginalized minimum wage workers! THIS IS OUR LAST CHANCE TO QUALIFY FOR THE BALLOT!

This August 4-6 in Chicago over 1000 delegates will gather for our 2023 DSA National Convention. This will be the first in-person National Convention since 2019!  Delegates will be gathering to discuss key issues facing DSA, from the war in Ukraine, political independence from the Democrats, accountability of DSA leadership, staff, and electeds, and how & where to effectively build mass struggle and DSA - to name of few!  The National Convention is the highest decision making body and is tasked with setting the course for DSA and electing a new national leadership.

Seattle DSA will be sending 24 delegates and 2 alternates to participate in these vitally important discussions and debates.

For democracy to thrive, there must be an equality of access for all members - regardless of your level of income.  We have several members in need and the costs are high for all.

Can you chip in $25, $50, $100 or $500 today to help ensure we have a vibrant and dynamic convention where all the delegates can participate in democratically determining the direction of our organization?

Heard about the possible UPS strike? Excited by the upsurge in labor activity these past few months. Want to see inside one of the most famous strikes in US history? Feeling curious about the history of the Teamsters and how they got a reputation as a fighting union?

Join Seattle DSA on July 30th 8 pm at the Beacon to watch the documentary ‘Labor’s Turning Point’. The documentary covers the famous 1934 Teamsters strike in Minneapolis. During the strike the local business alliance unleashed a brutal strike breaking campaign against the workers. However, the teamsters and their socialist leadership were able to effectively unite the working class of the town against the effort and succeed in winning the strike. This helped spark the growth of the teamsters union and transform Minneapolis into a union town.

After the film we will discuss the film and UPS Teamsters contract fight and the current labor movement.
