John,
Since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade and ended federal protections for abortion a little over a year ago, 21 states have moved to ban or restrict abortion, and at least 24 are expected to ban or heavily restrict access.
What we know: As bans go into effect, patients seeking abortions and other types of reproductive care have been forced to travel hundreds of miles, patients and providers have been prosecuted for seeking or providing abortion care, and people continue to suffer from hemorrhaging, infections, and sometimes life-threatening sepsis as a direct result of these laws.
The long view: The abortion access crisis began at the state and local levels, where anti-abortion donors invested heavily for decades to make abortion illegal or out of reach. We need to fight back at EVERY level, which is why we're investing in state and local leaders in communities most affected by abortion restrictions.
If you're able: please consider helping us fill the $7500 gap in our budget to fund our work in Virginia, Ohio, and Pennsylvania where critical elections this year will determine the balance of power and protect NECESSARY access points for abortion.
John, this fight cannot wait until 2024. With a prochoice ballot initiative coming up in Ohio and statewide elections in Pennsylvania and Virginia, the time to invest is now.
We must register and turnout prochoice voters to elect prochoice champions who will protect our fundamental rights — and that takes resources.
So, if you're able, please help us bridge the gap in our budget to make sure we can fund our fall election work NOW.
Thank you for supporting this work, we can't do this without you!
