The climate crisis is an existential threat – and its effects are already upon us. While we cannot reverse the effects of a warming planet, we can — and must — take aggressive action to mitigate the most disastrous impacts to come.

I’m committed to passing a green new deal, cutting our emissions in half this decade, and making historic investments in green energy, infrastructure, and mass transit. But even with that, I believe Congress cannot be too aggressive when it comes to this subject.

There has been a lot of noise from the GOP about the Green New Deal. I was one of that bill's original cosponsors, and I have fought to be a consistent champion of similar bold legislation that would combat climate change, invest in clean energy, and create a green economy in California and across the country.

We need an Apollo Project-level investment and commitment.

It doesn't just stop with climate action, though. Our environment needs protection. And in Congress, we need fighters who will advocate for a healthier planet beyond just combatting climate change. Throughout my time in Congress, I’ve been that fighter. I have introduced bills such as the Rim of the Valley Corridor Preservation Act. This bill means we could protect natural resources and hundreds of thousands of acres around Los Angeles.

Kevin McCarthy, Donald Trump, and the Republican Party refuse to address the climate crisis. They’ve squandered precious time selling conspiracy theories and lies to distract from the truth...time that should have been spent accelerating our transition to clean energy and ending our destructive reliance on fossil fuels.

I am ready to be a part of the needed change to make sure that we aren’t wasting any more time on climate action. The planet and our future won’t wait on us to resolve partisan divides and culture-war hysteria.
