Governor Matos will be the first Democratic woman and the first person of color EVER elected to Congress in Rhode Island – she will also be the first Afro-Latina EVER seated in our U.S. Congress -– a 3X glass ceiling smasher!

Lt. Governor Matos immigrated to the United States from the Dominican Republic at age 20, determined to follow the American Dream. In 2010, as a young mom, she ran for and was elected to the Providence City Council – when asked why a young mom would want to enter politics, she responded, “Why not?” Matos was later elected to serve as Rhode Island’s Lieutenant Governor, where she helped expand abortion coverage to state employees and people on Medicaid and joined with 21 other Lieutenant Governors from across the nation to form a Coalition to Protect Reproductive Freedom.

Matos has been blazing trails for much of her life, and we’re thrilled to support her as she aims to blaze yet another impressive trail in her run for this congressional seat.
