John,
You did it!
In just a few short hours yesterday, over 5,000 of you sent letters to members of the House, urging them to reject drastic cuts to essential nutrition programs―and it worked. The House had planned to begin consideration of their bill today, but they didn’t have the votes, so House leaders had to delay the vote.
We won this round, but the fight to protect essential food programs isn’t over. We expect more backroom deals to be made, but by keeping the pressure on Congress, we can defeat them and save this critical funding. Donate $5 today to fight back against nutrition cuts.

New data shows that 5.3 million young children and postpartum parents could lose food benefits or see their benefits reduced through WIC cuts.1
If Congress wants to reduce the number of people who receive SNAP, WIC, and other nutritional programs, they should reduce the need for them. They can pass legislation to raise the federal minimum wage to $15 an hour or more, invest more in job training, reinstate an expanded Child Tax Credit, prioritize expanding Medicaid and housing vouchers so that people have more money to spend on food, and they could institute a federal free meals program in every elementary, middle, and high school in the United States.
The last thing Congress should do: enact draconian funding cuts like the ones in the agriculture funding bill the House is unable to pass this week.
The communities that have been hardest hit by the COVID-19 pandemic, record inflation, and skyrocketing housing costs are the ones who will suffer the most under funding cuts to nutrition programs. During the pandemic we hailed the grocery store workers, custodians, and the food preparation workers as heroes. Let’s ensure they receive the benefits they and their children deserve.
Rush a donation today to fight back against cuts to food benefits and ensure, in the wealthiest country in the history of the world, that no one goes hungry.
