Workers are getting sick and even dying in the unprecedented heat that’s blanketing communities in Texas and across the country — and right now, there is NO federal law that protects workers from the heat.
Instead of helping everyday people, extremist Republicans like Texas Gov. Greg Abbott are passing laws to eliminate workers’ limited rights to things like water breaks.
To fight back and draw attention to this critical gap in workers rights, Congressman Greg Casar held a thirst strike on the steps of the U.S. Capitol. Congressman Casar stood on the steps of the U.S. Capitol all day without water in solidarity with workers.
As our communities face an accelerating climate crisis, workers are on the front lines, and they deserve fundamental protections for their health and safety.
Together, we can push back against Republicans and corporate special interests that take away workers’ rights, and make progress to guarantee heat safety protections for all workers.
