When the Supreme Court’s decision required Alabama to draw new congressional maps providing accurate representation for Black voters, Attorney General Eric Holder called it “a victory for all Americans.” Even though the process isn’t done yet, we won’t stop working for final, fair maps.

Then the Court issued another ruling opening the door for Louisiana’s racially discriminatory maps to also be redrawn. A.G. Holder had this to say:

“This marks another significant victory in the fight for fair representation – particularly for Black voters in Louisiana, who have had their voting rights wrongly and illegally diminished by power-hungry politicians for too long . . .

As a result of this order, Black voters in Louisiana are one step closer to receiving a fair, compliant map . . . that they have tenaciously fought for.”

– A.G. Eric Holder

In both Alabama and Louisiana, Republican politicians had passed manipulated maps that diluted the power of Black votes. Now, we have the chance to put in place new, fair maps

Victories like this wouldn’t be possible without supporters like you, team. If you’re able, will you donate now to help the NDRC continue our nationwide fight to end gerrymandering and protect voting rights?
