Friend, sometimes it's hard to wrap one's head around the fact that right now, in 2023, millions of Americans no longer have access to basic and vital reproductive care.
It's hard to wrap one's head around the fact that people across our nation – which claims to be a nation of freedom – have been stripped of their bodily autonomy so thoroughly that they are forced to carry unwanted pregnancies to term. It's all too easy to just sit back and wonder how this even happened.
But of course, we know how this happened. The overturning of Roe v. Wade and the subsequent push to ban or restrict abortions in at least 24 states was the result of a meticulously planned effort that the GOP has been working on for decades.
For decades, conservatives in state legislatures and Congress schemed to restrict abortion – and now, millions of people are suffering.
Friend, we are sure you recall the heart-stopping moment when mifepristone, the most widely used abortion pill in the nation, was nearly taken off the market – a blow that would've severely limited abortion access in every pocket of the nation. And though the Supreme Court did not follow through with removing this vital component of health care, it did make one thing clear:
We must codify reproductive rights. It is the only way to keep reproductive freedoms safe from the same far-right lawmakers who have worked for decades to take the right to choose away.
That's why Sen. Luján promises to be a vote for reproductive freedom in the Senate, and he's counting on you to stand with him. We need 5,000 people to sign his petition to protect reproductive rights before midnight tonight, so please:
Will you add your name to our petition to protect the right to choose?
