John,
We have always known that access to abortion was not only necessary, it’s popular. And polls confirmed that. Before the Dobbs decision, polling showed nearly 70% of Americans felt Roe v. Wade, the constitutionally protected right to abortion, should not be overturned. [1]
They did it anyway. But we were ready. Give to continue our bold actions working towards what a majority of people want.
Now, a year out from the ruling, findings show that not only do people still support abortion, they want more, favoring unrestricted access to abortion at any stage of pregnancy. [2]
We support the right of a pregnant person to seek out abortion care however and whenever necessary. Donate to show you agree.
This year alone, we have seen the dangers of vague, blanket laws around viability and “life of the mother” exceptions that don’t actually support families. We have heard the horror stories of people being deemed “not sick enough” to receive abortion care, of doctors who fear losing their licenses for treating their patients, of families forced through grueling, heartbreaking pregnancies and navigating unnecessary tragedy.
It is wrong. It is unpopular. And it proves what we’ve always known: Abortion is essential.
Sincerely,
Shireen Shakouri
Reproaction, Deputy Director
P.S. This fight is long, but the evidence is clear: people want safe and accessible abortion care. Join us in working towards it.
