AP ([link removed]) (7/26/23) reports: "New Jersey is pushing an ambitious agenda to move its more than 9 million residents away from natural gas and gasoline to heat their homes and power their cars, in favor of electricity to do the job of both. But like many other places in the country, the moves, designed to lessen the harmful impact of burning fossil fuels on the planet’s climate, are garnering significant opposition from foes who warn that the government is coming to take away your stove and your car. New Jersey utility regulators on Wednesday approved a series of “decarbonization” measures designed to incentivize buildings to switch from natural gas heat to electric. Participation in the programs is strictly voluntary, according to the chairman of the state Board of Public Utilities, who lashed out against “misinformation and lies” being circulated by opponents. Democratic Gov. Phil Murphy has
said he wants only “zero-emissions” vehicles to be available in the state by 2035. Taken together, they represent aggressive steps to move away from fossil fuel use."

Fires burning uncontrollably. Death. Destruction. Nope, it's not Pirates of the Caribbean, it's just an EV.

(7/26/23) reports: "A fire blazed on a cargo ship off the Dutch coast with nearly 3,000 vehicles on board on Wednesday, killing one member of the crew and injuring several others, the coastguard said. Several crew members were forced to jump overboard after the fire began on Tuesday night on the 199-metre (655-foot) Panama-registered Fremantle Highway as it was en route from Germany to Egypt. The Indian Embassy in the Netherlands said in a social media post the fire had "resulted in the death of an Indian seafarer and injuries to the crew", and that it was in touch with family of the deceased. Japan's Shoei Kisen, which owns the ship, said the entire crew of 21 was Indian...The coastguard said on its website the cause of the fire was unknown, but a coastguard spokesperson had earlier told Reuters it began near an electric car. Roughly 25 out of 2,857 vehicles on the ship were electric."

Dear Chuck:
Instead of trying to muscle FERC to do your dirty work, why don't you try that thing called legislating?
Sincerely,
The Voters

(7/24/23) editorial: "Progressive states don’t want to bear the trillions of dollars in costs for building out their green electricity grids. So now Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer is directing the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to stick red states with the bill. Mr. Schumer last week sent a letter demanding that FERC expedite a “strong transmission planning and cost allocation rule” to deliver more “clean power to Americans.” He claims that disagreements among states on permitting new transmission lines and allocating their costs is stalling renewable projects. Under FERC’s current rules, costs of transmission projects are allocated based on which parties benefit from improved reliability or reduced congestion costs. For example, Illinois residents would pay higher electric rates for a new transmission line to move power from a gas-fired plant in Wisconsin to Illinois to maintain reliability."
