On Monday, businesses and organizations in the outdoor recreation industry joined forces to launch the "Mobilizing for Monuments" campaign, which encourages President Joe Biden to use his authority under the Antiquities Act to designate millions of acres of federal lands as national monuments.

The coalition, which includes outdoor industry leaders like REI Co-op, The North Face, and Patagonia, uplifts on-the-ground efforts to designate multiple proposed national monuments, including the Baaj Nwaavjo I’tah Kukveni Grand Canyon National Monument in Arizona and the Dolores River Canyon Country National Monument in Colorado, as well as expand the San Gabriel Mountains National Monument, and the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument, both in California.

Businesses aren't the only ones calling for more national monuments. In a new ad campaign from the Center for Western Priorities titled "More Monuments," voters remind President Biden that protecting public lands through the designation of national monuments is inspiring and shows voters that the president is making progress toward his America the Beautiful goal of protecting 30 percent of U.S. lands and waters by 2030.

"More Monuments" is part of the Center for Western Priorities' Winning the West project, a campaign that finds there is bipartisan support for conservation efforts and the protection of public lands in the West. Polling data shows this support plays a notable role in how Western voters choose to vote.

“Our latest ad sends a clear message to President Biden that the designation of new national monuments is good for his conservation legacy and for inspiring Westerners with real progress,” Center for Western Priorities Executive Director Jennifer Rokala said in a statement. “The Winning the West project demonstrates time and again that conservation is both a winning and a unifying issue in the West.”

A group of people hike along the Rocky Point Trail, some using mobility devices like handcycles. Wheelchairs and other hand and battery-powered mobility devices are allowed on all park trails.

Two National Park Service employees are using a tool—like the orange, one-wheeled device pictured here—to evaluate trails in Glacier National Park to identify trail variables: grade, cross-slope, trail width, surface material and more. This data allows park managers to prioritize future trail improvements.
