Another successful Wollaton Arts Festival
WAF

*As your local Councillors, we were once again proud to support Wollaton Arts Festival. The festival has grown, since it was first started in 2016, into a fantastic celebration of poetry, art, music, singing and dance.*

Festival goers were able to participate in a range of events from tours of the secret walled garden in Wollaton Park, knitting, glass fusion and other arts and crafts sessions to comedy, jazz and the Family Fun Finale which included performances from contemporary dance and acoustic artists. Multi-lingual poetry, a bhangra pirate show and circus artists added to the fun filled entertainment extravaganza.

The event is run by a dedicated team of volunteers and if you would like to support them next year, contact your councillors who will put you in touch.

The secret walled garden gets a new set of gates

GATES

In May, the Wollaton Historical and Conservation Society opened the new gates to the walled garden.

The gates were made by a local Wollaton firm and the money to pay for them was raised by local people.  The gates are not only a very attractive addition to the garden, they will also provide additional security for the plants and equipment in the garden.

The initials on the gates refer to the Willoughby and Middleton families who resided in the Hall during different periods. Nottingham City Council Portfolio holder for Leisure and Culture, Pavlos Kotsonis and Cllr Zafran Khan attended the opening ceremony, with Cllr Saj Ahmad visiting the gates the following day.

If you’d like a tour of the walled garden, for a £5 donation, contact the Friends of Wollaton Park team: [email protected]

Hidden gem of the walled garden restored
HOUSE

We were joined by the Sherriff of Nottingham, Cllr Shuguftah Quddoos to open a hidden but historic attraction after the restoration of the Cucumber House in the walled garden at Wollaton Park. More than 50 volunteers have returned the once dilapidated building to its former glory a process which included completely reglazing the roof.

Day of Action
DAY OF ACTION

*At the end of June, we supported local council officers with a series of events, responding to you concerns in Wollaton. *

Deep cleans were carried out across the area; community litter picks helped tidy up our area and speeding patrols were carried out in and around Lambourne Drive and Wollaton Vale. The day ended with a community get-together at Wollaton Vale Community Centre with free refreshments as a thank you to everyone who attended.

As your councillors, we are committed to responding to your concerns and taking action to make Wollaton better, so don’t hesitate to get in touch if there are concerns you wish to raise.
