John,
The full House of Representatives may vote on their Agriculture Appropriations bill in the next two days, and extremists are pushing several amendments that would inflict additional funding cuts on people who participate in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) and other nutrition assistance. This could have dire consequences for millions of low-income households struggling to put food on the table.
Time is of the essence. Send a message to your representative today to oppose all proposals that would cut funding for SNAP and other nutrition programs.

The potential amendments would restrict eligibility for SNAP by:1
-
Raising the age for time-limited benefits and work reporting requirements to 65 (after it was already raised to 55 during this years debt-ceiling crisis);
-
Eliminating the new work reporting exemptions for people experiencing homelessness, veterans, and youth aging out of foster care (these exemptions were enacted in the recent law that suspended the debt limit);
-
Restricting states’ flexibility to waive certain requirements and exempt certain individuals from the harsh SNAP 3-month time limit/work reporting rules.
-
Reducing benefits by suspending a past bipartisan provision that ensures nutrition benefits in the Farm Bill more adequately reflect the cost of a nutritious diet.
As House extremists push these SNAP provisions, their funding bill also takes nutrition assistance away from pregnant women and young children through cuts to the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC).
We cannot attempt to balance the federal budget on the backs of the most vulnerable in our society. Join us today in rushing a letter to your representative, strongly urging them to oppose any and all attacks on essential nutrition programs.
Thank you for all you do to support children and families,
Deborah Weinstein
