Dear John,
The stakes are high on August 8 in Ohio. Voters will head to the polls to decide if they want to raise the threshold for voters to pass amendments to the state constitution — from a simple majority to 60%.
All Ohio voters deserve the right to weigh in on this question. If passed, Issue 1 would make it significantly more difficult to amend the state’s constitution, and will make it much harder for Ohioans to pass an amendment guaranteeing abortion rights in November.
This is one of the first elections held in Ohio since a strict new voter ID law went into effect this year. Ohio voters must now present one of only four kinds of photo ID in order to vote. Anyone who voted in Ohio last year — or any time before that — may not know that they need an ID to vote this time around.
There’s the potential for a lot of confusion on August 8 — many eligible voters may be turned away because they simply didn’t know that the rules had changed.
It’s our job at VoteRiders to make sure that doesn’t happen. We still need to directly reach hundreds of thousands of voters — through the mail, via text, and online — to let them know that they’ll need an ID to vote in this important special election.
And if they’re one of the estimated one million eligible voters who don’t have an accepted form of ID? We’ll help them get one, of course! All for free!
We have a ton of work to do in a short amount of time. Will you help us text Ohio voters with this critical information? We’re hosting a virtual textbank on August 3 at 7pm ET and we’d love it if you joined us!
