Jessica’s opponent is Republican incumbent Amanda Batten, who has regularly voted against reproductive rights and gun safety. Republicans control Virginia’s House of Delegates by a THIN margin – only four seats. But, according to ABC News, 8 of the 100 House seats on the ballot in VA this year are considered competitive – Jessica’s race is one of them!

That means Jessica’s race could be one of only 7 other opportunities to ensure VA remains a strong, pro-choice state, and a safe haven for women searching for reproductive healthcare access across the South. Meanwhile, Jessica’s opponent was given a D on the ReproRising Legislative Scorecard for supporting anti-choice bills.

Medical tests that detect serious problems with a fetus often cannot confirm these problems until closer to 20 weeks. This would require expectant mothers to carry a pregnancy to term even after learning that their baby will likely not survive after birth.
