Join U.S. Representative Emilia Sykes (OH-13), Akron City Council Member Shammas Malik, Ohio Democratic Party Chair Liz Walters, and Swing Left Executive Director Yasmin Radjy for a canvass in Akron! We’re talking with voters face-to-face ahead of the August 8 Special Election to encourage them to "Vote No on Issue 1" to protect the power of their vote. We'll have a full training before we go out, so even if you've never canvassed before—you'll be ready.

Democracy is on the ballot in Ohio this summer. In line with MAGA extremists across the country, Ohio’s Republican-dominated state legislature has been using their gerrymandered supermajority to pass legislation restricting abortion access and to lock in their power by making it harder for Ohioans to vote.
Now, they've triggered an August special election—designed intentionally to fall when they hope fewer people are paying attention—on a proposed constitutional amendment that will reduce the power of Ohioans’ votes and weaken the state’s democracy. This is a brazen attempt to effectively end citizen-driven ballot initiatives and prevent any challenge to their deeply unpopular policies.
