Why we are 350: Scientists overwhelmingly agree that 350ppm CO2 is the upper limit to sustain life as humans have lived it. For 800,000+ years atmospheric CO2 varied between roughly 180 to 280ppm ([link removed]) (graphic).

Petition from STAND ([link removed]) .earth ([link removed])
The world's biggest banks are responsible for over $20 billion in direct financing for oil and gas companies destroying the Amazon rainforest. Join us and demand they stop financing Amazon oil & gas.

John,

In 2022, there was a widespread uprising in Ecuador – led by Indigenous communities – calling on the government to stop the expansion of extractive activities in the Ecuadorian region of Amazonia.

The nation-wide strike, which lasted 18 days, successfully pushed the government to repeal Executive Decree 95 (a proposed expansion of oil and gas production). But the ongoing threat of oil and gas extraction wasn’t fully stopped and destruction of the region continues.

So, we followed the money – because the fossil fuel industry is propped up by global financial institutions pumping billions of dollars into oil and gas projects. What we found was shocking: 160 banks involved in $20 billion USD in Amazon oil and gas financing over the past 15 years.

Our new report, Capitalizing on Collapse, shows that eight banks – JPMorgan Chase, Citibank, Itaú Unibanco, HSBC, Banco Santander, Bank of America, Banco Bradesco, and Goldman Sachs – provided over $11 billion USD (of the $20B) in financing to Amazon oil and gas activities from 2009–2023.

We got the numbers, we got the data, now we need a groundswell of pressure on banks to exit Amazon oil and gas. Will you add your name and urge banks to stop capitalizing on the collapse of Amazonia? ([link removed])

These top banks have financed projects like the development of Amazonia’s biggest carbon bomb – the Parnaiba Gas Complex. A gas facility capable of releasing two gigatons of carbon in its lifetime. The billions banks are funneling into these dangerous products are robbing us of a climate-safe future that aligns with the 1.5C pathway.

Amazonia is the last place oil and gas extraction should be happening. Forest destruction caused by industrial activities has already forced the Amazonian biome to a tipping point. Indigenous Peoples of Amazonia have put out an urgent call to protect 80% of the region by 2025 to save this key biodiversity hub – which means banks must stop any and all financing of Amazon oil and gas.

Now is the time to push banks out of Amazonia. ([link removed]) John, add your name to the petition calling on banks to exit Amazon oil and gas immediately. ([link removed])

Thanks to our award-winning research, ambitious campaign and the Stand community, we’ve seen important commitments to protect Amazonia from banks like BNP Paribas, HSBC, and others. But we have more work to do, if we are to protect this vital forest and stand with Indigenous People.

I couldn’t be more proud to be doing this with you all. Thank you for all that you do!

In solidarity,
Martyna Dominiak

Chase & Wells Fargo Banks
Many banks (including Chase and Wells Fargo) are lending their depositor's money to fossil fuel companies to develop new fossil fuel production.

We want more people to be aware of this and hopefully change their bank or talk to the bank management!

We get honks and thumbs up from drivers and passersby. Some people stop and have a chat about what the banks are doing, or ask, "What is fossil fuel ([link removed]) ?"

We're alternating between two Chase Bank locations.
