Dear Friend,

This July will be the hottest month on record, and likely in human history. There is no doubt: The climate crisis is here, and it is bringing extreme, record-breaking heat that is causing death and unprecedented danger across the globe.

We know what must be done to avoid even greater catastrophe: We must rapidly transition away from carbon-emitting fossil fuels to 100% clean energy.

Earthjustice attorneys have had real success with litigation to shut down massive carbon emitters, stop new fossil fuel projects, and speed up the transition to clean energy. We can win this fight thanks to supporters like you.

This July, Death Valley saw the hottest reliably recorded temperature in history. In Iran, a 152-degree heat index tested the limits of human survival. China saw its highest-ever recorded temperature, Phoenix has hit 110 degrees for a record-breaking 25 consecutive days and counting, and ocean surface temperatures in Florida are blasting past all-time records.

Meanwhile, gas, coal, and oil industries are pursuing a deceitful greenwashing campaign to delay climate action and maintain profits at the expense of our planet and our lives.

Earthjustice is fighting back. A world powered by 100% clean energy is possible, and we are at the center of dozens of legal battles that will accelerate that transition.

Our attorneys are working to:

- Retire the U.S. coal fleet by 2030
- Increase energy efficiency
- Remove barriers for rooftop and community solar
- Remove barriers for clean energy storage
- Ensure policy makers modernize the grid
- Expand access to clean energy and transportation
- Electrify cars, trucks, buses, and transportation systems
- Electrify 100% of buildings
- Ensure that retiring coal plants are replaced with solar, wind, and storage rather than polluting new gas plants

We are winning key battles and breaking down regulatory hurdles at the federal, state, and local level.

This month, we negotiated a settlement that locks in the retirement of the third largest coal plant in the country — the Monroe plant in Michigan. Over the last year, attorneys and grassroots advocates won key decisions from the United States Postal Service to electrify their fleet. And now, we are suing to stop massive new fossil fuel projects in the Arctic like the Willow Project and the Alaska LNG pipeline.

The fight to stop the climate crisis is massive and ever-growing, and our opponents in the fossil fuel industry are well-funded. Only a movement that combines the power of the law, the strength of our partners, and the generosity of our supporters will succeed. Thank you for being a critical part of our movement.
