Eyes wide open: the cost of alcohol  

The average drinker in the UK spends around £62,8991 on alcohol in a lifetime, based on a new estimate from Alcohol Change UK. We might expect that, for this amount of money, the benefits would be huge. But this brings with it many additional personal costs.

Working together: an online seminar

Join us at our online seminar on supporting LGBTQ+ people to navigate alcohol issues, avoid alcohol problems and access alcohol support  

10am to 1pm, Thursday 21 September 2023 

LGBTQ+ people are at more risk of alcohol problems; but when they encounter such problems, they are less likely to receive the support they need.  

We’ll be hearing from experts with personal and professional experience of drinking in LGBTQ+ communities, working to make more LGBTQ+ sober spaces, and how support services can be made more relevant and accessible.

Run a Half (or Two) in Cardiff and London 

We have offices in London and Cardiff and we wanted an event to embrace our English and Cymraeg identity, it’s the ‘Alcohol Change UK Marathon Challenge’! 

The challenge involves running the Cardiff Half Marathon and Royal Parks Half Marathon in 2023  to complete the iconic marathon distance.

You can complete the challenge individually (running both events) or as a team (one event per person). How will you complete the 26.2 miles? 

If you’d rather just run Cardiff Half or Royal Parks Half on its own you can do that too, it’s a challenge for everyone!

MUP has "reduced alcohol-related deaths and hospital admissions" 

Public Health Scotland has published its final evaluation of minimum unit pricing (MUP) for alcohol in Scotland, collating evidence from 40 research publications. It concluded that the policy has reduced alcohol-related deaths and hospital admissions, and lowered alcohol consumption. However, it also noted that MUP may have had some negative health consequences for those with alcohol dependence.
