Hello John, Have you met Tsar and Jamil? As soon as we heard their story, we knew Born Free had to help. Knowing how much you love wild animals, we think you’ll feel the same way!
You could give the care they deserve. |
Aged just two, the young lions are beautiful. But, taken from their mum as tiny cubs, they’ve endured so much. No wonder they have such anxious eyes…
Born in a zoo in Ukraine, they were sold to an ostrich farm to ‘attract visitors’. They must have been terrified. Heavily exploited, they became malnourished and sickly. Thankfully, under pressure from animal welfare groups, they were rehomed at a rescue centre.
But then, war broke out in Ukraine and Russian troops invaded. Panicked by deafening shelling, the brothers injured themselves, jumping against the bars of their cage.
You could help transform their lives.

Despite appalling human heartbreak and hardship, the brave rescue centre knew they needed to/wanted to/had to evacuate the lions to safety and a new temporary home was found for Tsar and Jamil. After a long, dangerous journey, a petrifying encounter with Russian troops, they got safely to a zoo in Poland, before finally arriving at Natuurhulpcentrum in Belgium. This wonderful half-way house offers a short-term home to lions in need.
But, lions of course belong in Africa and, at Shamwari Private Game Reserve in South Africa, Born Free has an awesome sanctuary. We long to give Tsar and Jamil the loving, expert care for life they deserve, in a spacious, natural enclosure, at this peaceful paradise.
You could help give them a forever home.
