Heat Advisory for Thursday, July 27th through Saturday, July 29th   Dear Neighbor, As you are likely aware, the state has commenced the process of recertifying New Yorkers who have been covered by Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or the Essential Plan. Since March 2020, the continuous coverage policy has been implemented and New Yorkers have not been required to go through the Medicaid recertification process to ensure that coverage was maintained during the public health emergency. Each month, the New York State of Health and local departments of social services will recertify a cohort of New Yorkers whose annual renewal falls during that month. My office was informed that the cohort of New Yorkers who must renew their Medicaid coverage by July 31st is 558,923 individuals between 0 to 65+ years of age. As of June 30th, a total of 402,708 - 72% of cohort members - had renewed their coverage. The age brackets with the highest renewal completion rates were ages 0-17, 55-64, and 45-54, while the age brackets with lower renewal completion rates were ages 35-44, 26-34, and 18-25. A portion of the remaining 28% may now have health insurance through an employer or through the marketplace; however, I am sending this email to help spread the word about the July 31st deadline. If you have received a Medicaid, Child Health Plus, or Essential Plan renewal packet and you have not yet returned the completed paperwork, please make sure to do so by July 31st so that you will not lose coverage.
