Dear John,

Tomorrow morning at 10:15 am ET, 50CAN President Derrell Bradford will testify before the United States' House Subcommittee on Early Childhood, Elementary and Secondary Education at a hearing titled “Generational Learning Loss: How Pandemic School Closures Hurt Students.”

A congressional livestream of the hearing will be available here. Alternatively, you can watch live on the Committee’s YouTube.

In his written testimony, Derrell sums up the state of learning loss in the country:

Without rigorous intervention and increased learning time, fewer than two-thirds of students will achieve a level of “average knowledge” in reading and math by the time they reach their senior year in high school. Far from being addressed, for millions of American students learning loss appears to be locked in and, perhaps, worsening. To call it a disaster understates what has happened to an entire generation of American students.

Derrell has written extensively about the politics that kept schools closed and the enormous cost to all of our children. He will put a spotlight on the current state of learning loss, the $190 billion allocated to the nation's public schools, and examples from across the country that we can build upon to provide students with the better education they deserve.

We hope you’ll join the 50CAN family in tuning in for Derrell’s testimony.
