NYC Member Roundtable Meeting at the People’s Forum on 7/18

John,

Every year, the NYIC chooses the campaigns it’s going to fight for on the city and state levels through a membership-based participatory process. This multi-step process incorporates our member organizations, Immigrant Leaders Council, and our board of directors from across the state from beginning to end!

Our Member Roundtables include NYIC members and partners on the frontlines working with immigrant New Yorkers, who bring firsthand experience of what they are seeing and hearing. They debrief our last year's campaigns and brainstorm to generate ideas for possible state campaigns, working alongside NYIC staff facilitators. We hold these meetings throughout the state to make sure every region has an opportunity to weigh in and offer input. This year, our Roundtables locations are in:
* Mid-Hudson
* Capital Region
* New York City
* Western New York
* Finger Lakes
* Central New York
* Long Island
* North Country

After the meetings are done, we send our members a survey based on the issues that received the most votes from the Roundtables. Following the Member Survey, we complete a political scorecard, which helps holistically weigh a campaign’s strength and relevance and account for the feedback from the membership during the Roundtable and Member Survey.

Once we have a final list of member priorities, our Immigrant Leaders Council and the Board Policy Committee review them, sending their recommendations for final review to our Board of Directors, who make the final decision.

While this takes around four months to be finalized, NYIC members remain involved as integral members and leaders in our coalitions who will lead campaigns for the changes they demanded in our Roundtables.
