Hi,
“It was one of the worst feelings I’ve ever had in my entire life,” Seth
Pacic, a UPS truck driver recounted after dry heaving, out of sorts,
unable to drive home until he sat in an air-conditioned office for over an
hour.^1 This is the story of extreme heat and truck driving as UPS has
refused to provide air conditioning in its delivery trucks.
It gets worse. Drivers have experienced heatstroke. Drivers have died.
This is what happens when corporate greed comes before the health and
safety of workers. And it’s why worker protections like air conditioning
in trucks is a major issue in the contract negotiations between UPS
executives and union workers.^2
These conditions show why beefed up funding for the National Labor
Relations Board (NLRB) and the Occupational Safety and Health
Administration (OSHA) is so important. But the House GOP wants to slash
funding from these two agencies, which would seriously jeopardize worker
protections and safe working conditions in America.^3 The Republican
budget is an attack on workers and Congress must reject these GOP budget
measures.

This is the classic GOP playbook: Attack everyday workers and protect
ultra-rich CEOs who donate to Republican campaigns. It’s wrong. And it
will absolutely put millions of workers in danger to strip funding from
the already chronically underfunded NLRB and OSHA.
While Republicans try to sell America on the false idea that they’re the
party for workers, they continue trying to rollback worker protections and
labor rights. That’s just part of the story: the GOP is also out to tear
apart Social Security after workers have paid into it for decades, and
slash taxes for the rich.
This is a critical time to let members of Congress know that we support
labor and have our eyes trained on funding for the NLRB and OSHA.
