This week, the House Foreign Affairs Committee is expected to vote on an important bipartisan bill to help address the growing Iranian threat.

In less than three months — on October 18 — the U.N. restrictions on Iran’s missile and drone programs will expire.

Iran already has the largest missile arsenal in the Middle East, and it has repeatedly used them to attack Americans and Israelis. There have been more than 80 Iranian-backed drone and rocket attacks on Americans in Syria and Iraq just since January 2021, killing two Americans and injuring dozens more.

For over a year, we’ve also seen Iran provide drones to Russia to help kill Ukrainians. And it is reportedly considering providing ballistic missiles to Russia as well.

The threat posed by Iran’s missile and drone programs will only grow in the coming years and months.  

To counter this threat, House Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Michael McCaul (R-TX) and Ranking Member Gregory Meeks (D-NY) have introduced the Fight and Crime Rampant Iranian Missile Exports (Fight CRIME) Act. Senate Foreign Relations Committee Chairman Bob Menendez (D-NJ) and Senator Bill Hagerty (R-TN) have introduced the companion Making Iran Sanctions Stick In Lieu of Expiration of Sanctions (MISSILES) Act in the Senate.

These bipartisan bills will strengthen U.S. sanctions on companies and individuals aiding Iran’s missile and drone efforts and pressure the administration to work to extend the soon-to-expire U.N. restrictions.
