H.R. 1437: Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Climate Change Research Act

This legislation takes important action to address America's national security concerns in the face of our changing climate. Specifically, the DHS Climate Change Research Act will:

  • ensure that the Department of Homeland Security fulfills its mission of conducting research to advance homeland security;
  • direct the Science and Technology Directorate to conduct analysis and technological research on how DHS can confront climate change;
  • implement a high level of accountability to the American public by mandating annual reporting to Congress regarding the research and projects that DHS has undertaken in the previous year.

Subcommittee on Environment and Climate Change Hearing on EPA's Lead and Copper Proposal: Failing To Protect Public Health

  • Like many other cities, Brooklyn is dealing with its own lead drinking water crisis, especially when it comes to our public schools. At the hearing, I spoke with experts and advocates about how EPA’s new rule fails to take the steps needed in order to protect our children and keep lead out of our drinking water. EPA’s own career public servants new about these shortcomings years before this new rule was finalized! View tweet here.

Subcommittee on Health Hearing on Protecting Women's Access to Reproductive Health Care

  • We have seen hundreds of state laws and restrictions that single out abortion care under the guise of “safety” that seem more focused on making access to an abortion more difficult. This is why I vehemently support and am a cosponsor of H.R. 2975, the Women's Health Protection Act, to end political interference with women's private medical decisions. Abortion care is health care. View tweet here.

Gun violence plagues our communities. We must pressure the do-nothing-senate to put lives above lobbies. We must get guns off the streets. Out of the iron pipeline. And out of the hands of people who shouldn’t have guns. View tweet here.
