Dear MoveOn member,
In a story seemingly ripped from dystopian horror, Nebraska resident Celeste Burgess, 19, was just sentenced to 90 days in jail for a case involving her termination of a pregnancy when she was 17 years old using abortion medication.1
Nobody should be punished for exercising bodily autonomy and seeking essential health care. Will you add your name and call upon the Nebraska Pardons Board, Nebraska governor, and Nebraska state legislature to free Celeste and stop prosecuting, criminalizing, and imprisoning people for seeking health care?
With anti-abortion activists applauding this sentence and Republicans implementing increasingly restrictive anti-abortion laws, cases like this are only going to become more common. Despite what Republicans claim, these bans are designed to criminalize people who seek abortion care, as well as family members and health providers who assist them—and to fundamentally seize control of our health care and autonomy. We must put an end to the criminalization of abortion before it gets any worse.
Free Celeste and ensure her mother isn't punished either simply for seeking health care for her daughter!
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into 2024, we need your help.
