John, I was so very proud to see Brandon's first TV ad go up earlier this month. It was shot on Main Street in downtown Nettleton, the little town that helped raise him and where he knows every crack in every sidewalk.

I had goosebumps the morning we shot that ad — just thinking about all the years he’s spent loving and serving this town. In a minute, I’m going to tell you a bit about how Nettleton helped turn Brandon into the man he is today.

This little town of Nettleton instilled the deep values of public service that Brandon holds today. To give you an idea about how long he’s wanted to be involved in serving the people - when he was 10 years old, he came up with the idea of a Jr. Fire Department and tried his best to get the mayor and city leaders to listen to him! He wrote letters and even attended city council meetings!

And Brandon got his first job right on Main Street in Nettleton. As a 13-year-old, Mr. Jimmy Rogers hired Brandon to work in his store, Rogers Auto Parts. He worked after school every day and all day on Saturdays and learned so much from Mr. Jimmy about the value of hard work, looking your best, keeping the store shelves stocked neatly and serving customers the right way.

And, all of Mississippi needs to meet Miss Minnie Leeper of Nettleton. She was Brandon’s self-appointed campaign manager during his very first run for mayor of Nettleton way back in 2001 when he was 23 years old.

Miss Minnie Leeper is a beloved fixture in our town — there’s no one in need she hasn’t tried to help. She calls Brandon regularly with advice or a request for him to help someone and then quickly hangs up on him before he can even get a word in!

This town raised Brandon and taught him the importance of giving back to your community. But too many small towns, just like Nettleton, have been left behind by Tate Reeves and his buddies. They don’t care about supporting small towns — they just care about where they’ll get their next big corporate check.

Families in Mississippi need someone who knows where they’re from, has stood in their shoes, and who deeply loves our small communities across this state, like Nettleton. That’s why Brandon is running for governor — and I truly believe that he can make a difference for our state. In fact, I know he can!
