Barbara has a long history of making history.
As a high school student, she fought to integrate her cheerleading squad, ultimately becoming the first Black cheerleader in her high school. She was the first Black woman elected to the State Assembly and Senate from Northern California. And in 1998, she became the first woman elected to Congress from her district where she spearheaded nearly every single major piece of HIV/AIDS legislation and worked with then-President Bush to secure $15 billion in funding to address the epidemic.
From supporting Medicare for All and investments in housing and education, Barbara has proven her unwavering commitment to a policy agenda that uplifts working people in this country.
She has never been afraid to take on big fights, and that’s why we’re so proud to stand with her in this one — as she runs for a historic seat in the U.S. Senate. Between now and March 5, 2024, we’re committed to mobilizing our members and voters across California in support of her run.
